Dr. JoAnn Jurchan

Dr. Jurchan began her teaching career in elementary schools in 1979.  She transitioned to teaching at the middle/junior high level where she designed a comprehensive junior high program for a K-8 school. Additional teaching experience with GED and High School Diploma subjects in the Adult Education system provided an opportunity to teach at the high school level. She accepted a teaching position in the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) in alternative education programs for at-risk students. While teaching there,  she earned a Masters in TESOL and began teaching at the university level in teacher preparation programs. Dr. Jurchan transitioned to fulltime teaching at the university level with the acceptance of an associate professor position in the School of Education at Point Loma Nazarene University. Soon thereafter, she earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership. Her teaching career continues as an associate professor in the School of Education at Azusa Pacific University.

Dr. Jurchan lives in the East County area of San Diego. Spending time attempting to outsmart gophers in her organic vegetable gardens takes up much of her leisure time.

In Dr. Jurchan's own words...

Teaching is an honorable calling. I continue to be dedicated to preparing and supporting all who enter the profession.

Dr. Chuck Downing

Dr. Downing began his teaching career just as the huge body of the last T-Rex settled into the mud of a shallow Cretaceous Period sea. Actually, he began teaching high school biology in 1973 at Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California. After 23 years at MVHS, he received his doctorate and shifted his focus to working with preservice teachers at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. He still taught some biology at PLNU, where he was a full professor and Director of Teacher Education. After eight years in higher education, he returned to his roots, finishing his teaching career at Great Oak High School in Temecula, California. He retired from full-time teaching in June of 2013.

In Dr. Downing's own words:

I live with my lovely wife, Leanne, and Hogan and Duke, two fine “rescue dogs,” in the Point Loma area of San Diego.

I am a Christian and am active in ministry at Mission Church of the Nazarene.

I'm still busy in retirement. I have authored  three  science fiction books, Traveler’s HOT L, and The Observers, published by Koehler Books and RIFTS, published through Amazon, com as C. R. Downing.

However, MY FAVORITE retirement activity is spending time with a very special miracle, my granddaughter Hadley Marie.

I thank God for His love for me and my family.
